I am excited to share that on Monday, May 2nd, your 7th and 8th grade students will be attending an assembly about what success means, healthy ways to manage stress, and perfectionism presented by Dr. Ken Ginsburg. Dr. Ginsburg is a nationally renowned pediatrician specializing in adolescent medicine at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He has also authored several books, including “Less Stress, More Success”, “A Parent’s Guide to Building Resilience in Children and Teens”, and “But I’m Almost 13: An Action Plan for Raising a Responsible Adolescent”.
I am sharing this with you in an effort to help you build a bridge between your child’s experience at school and their experiences at home. Monday afternoon and the weeks to come are a perfect time to engage your child in a conversation about handling stress, defining success for your family, and coping with perfectionistic qualities. Ask them what Dr. Ginsburg shared. Get their thoughts about his suggested strategies (see below) and share your own strategies for how you manage stressful situations. Dr. Ginsburg will be sharing specific ways your child can build resiliency for a lifetime so if you would like to learn more I encourage you to visit http://www.fosteringresilience.com/.
I am thankful for this opportunity to work with you as we all support the well-being of our JLS students.
