November 3rd JLS Evacuation

It has come to our attention that yesterday’s IC Messenger program had some glitches with delivery of both the phone and email message sent to families.  Below please find the text version of what was sent out to the community.  Thank you for providing us with feedback so we can improve our communication with you.

Sincerely,

Sharon Ofek

Good afternoon!  This is Sharon Ofek, Principal of JLS Middle School.  I am calling to inform you that earlier this morning, at 11:00a.m., the JLS administration called 911 and notified the school district office that there was a strong gaseous odor permeating our campus.  The students and staff safely evacuated to the field while the Palo Alto Fire Department inspected the campus to determine the source. After a very thorough check of the campus and consultation with Palo Alto Utilities it was determined that the cause of the odor was due to PG&E purging a transmission line.  The fire department gave the ‘all-clear’ for students and staff to return to class around 11:28a.m.

Due to the swift action of all parties we were able to ensure the safety of the campus and return to our normal schedule without extended interruption.  If you have any additional questions or concerns please contact the school at 650-856-5188.

Thank you and enjoy your evening.
