Feb 17 - Return to Learn Community Message

Good Afternoon JLS Families,

As we are all preparing for upcoming changes with the options of in-person learning, I have important information to share with you.  Thank you for always taking a few minutes to review the information in these JLS community messages. I hope you will find the information I've included today helpful. This message includes:

  • A Quick Questionnaire for 7th and 8th Grade JLS Families
  • Info from today’s Principal Coffee/Chat
  • Details about tonight’s Transition Information Night for Students with IEPs
  • Travel Advisory Reminders
  • ParentSquare Information (our Health Screening tool)
  • This week’s parent handout from School Connect

Non-Binding Return to Campus Questionnaire

This questionnaire is non-binding and will be used for our school's planning purposes only.  Before completing this questionnaire, please review the description of Grades 7-12 In-Person Instruction from Dr. Austin’s Superintendent Update, published February 12, 2021.

Please take a few moments to complete this form before 6:00 PM Friday, February 19, 2021.

Today’s Principal Chat: 7th + 8th Grade Opening

Today, we had about 80 parents attend our Principal Coffee to learn about the opening plans. Here is today’s Slide Deck. Our next Principal Coffee/Chat for all grade levels will be Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 8:30-9:20 AM.  We are planning a follow-up presentation on opening schools, as well as a brief presentation on Literacy and the IAB assessment.  To join next week's meeting, please use the link in your email.  All previous Principal Chat Slide Decks are located on the JLS webpage

Tonight! *PAUSD IEPs Transition Information Night * Wednesday, February 17, 2021 from 5:00-6:30 PM! Learn about Secondary and Post-Secondary transition planning and services for students with IEPs, with break-out rooms for transition to Middle, High, and post-secondary.

Travel Advisory Reminders

With spring break and warmer weather around the corner, we are asking our entire school community to take the Santa Clara County Travel Advisory seriously to protect all students, all staff, and all families. Travel advisories are still in place for Santa Clara County to help slow the transmission of COVID-19.  Specifically, we would like everyone to review the order regarding travel:

Leisure and non-essential travel are strongly discouraged, and Mandatory Directive on Travel will require people to quarantine for 10 days upon return to the County from travel of more than 150 miles.  Healthcare workers traveling into the county to provide care or patients traveling into the county to obtain treatment will be exempted from this requirement.

Travel of 150 miles beyond Santa Clara County currently requires a mandatory 10-day self-quarantine.

ParentSquare Information:

A "how-to" document and screencast for parents is posted on the PAUSD website.  Please review this information.  Soon we all will be using this tool as our Health Screener for students coming on campus in March.

You will also find a link to the health screener at the top of our school website for easy access (see photo). The website link will go to the ID Portal login, and when successful, redirect directly to the ParentSquare page.

With many things happening around us, and many families trying to process information coming from multiple angles, this week’s School Connect lesson on Applying Stress Management Strategies may help ease the stress that you and perhaps your student is feeling at home.  Please see the parent handout that aligns with the lessons JLS students had today in their Advisory class.

Thank you for your time in reading this message.  If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me or any member of the JLS support staff (email addresses listed below).

Take Care,

Chris Grierson, JLS Principal (
