6th Grade Learning Model Selection Form - Coming Tonight!

I hope you are aware of our district’s plans to bring 6th Grade students on campus, starting as soon as the week of March 1. (This announcement was included in our Superintendent’s Update last Friday and was discussed during yesterday’s Board Meeting.) PAUSD families will be given the choice of their 6th grade student(s) continuing their learning completely online or coming on campus part-time to learn in person.

This evening 6th Grade parents will receive an email asking for parent choice regarding the in-person hybrid model or to remain in the distance learning model.

To complete the learning model selection, please look for an email later this evening from a platform called ParentSquare. There will be a link to login via the PAUSD ID Portal to complete the selection form.

Students who select in-person learning will be on campus four days per week (first and second period, and sixth and seventh period). This means they will attend in-person classes Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and during Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Grab and go lunch will be provided and students will have time to transition home Tuesdays and Thursdays for their remote classes in the afternoon. Parents whose students who attend in person learning on campus will be responsible for completing a daily health screener on ParentSquare. If you have questions about our school’s plans to bring 6th grade students on campus, please join our upcoming Principal’s Coffee.

Principal’s Coffee Next Wednesday:

We will be hosting a Principals’ Coffee this coming Wednesday, February 10 from 8:30-9:20AM. Please use the zoom link in your email to join our conversation.

Tonight’s Parent Ed Event - "Developing Social Skills While Social Distancing"

Please join us for Tonight’s JLS Parent Ed Event: "Developing Social Skills While Social Distancing," TONIGHT, February 3, 7-8:30 PM.

We will hear from Susan Stone (plus Q&A) on "Developing Social Skills While Social Distancing." Susan Stone ( is a parenting coach and expert, and her talk will be aimed at middle school parents, as to how to help their children develop social relationships during this time. Attached is the handout with more details and helpful info. We hope you join us!

Friday, February 5 = JLS Distribution Day:

Friday’s Distribution is geared for ALL 6th Grade Students, 8th Grade Students, and some 7th Grade students.  Based on current health guidelines, we will be holding the Distribution Day in the JLS Gym.  Families will be invited to participate based on their student’s schedule and the materials they might need for their classes.  Parents of these students will be receiving individual email messages by 12:00 PM tomorrow (Thursday, February 4).

Please ask your child about their “Student Distribution Checklist” that they should have filled out online for all their classes.

The items that we are planning to distribute include:

  • 6th Science Notebooks
  • Semester Elective Materials
  • 8th Social Studies Materials
  • Packets or Novels for Social Studies and English (if needed)
  • We are also happy to collect any overdue library books

Please Note: The tentative date for our next Distribution Day is Friday, March 12, 2021.

Lastly, I hope you find the following resources helpful:

While these Student Tech Use Expectations were developed by PAUSD pre-pandemic, they are worth reviewing to encourage student wellness and safety online.  Also, PAUSD’s recent School News Roll Call publication shares how all PAUSD schools bring hope and optimism to our students’ lives.

Thank you for your continued support of our school community.  If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to any member of the JLS team.  I’ve included the contact information of our grade level counselors and administrators below.

Take care,

Chris Grierson, JLS Principal (
