Nov 17 - Commitment Reminder & Principal Coffees
Dear JLS Families,
Tomorrow evening the commitment survey for secondary students closes at 5:00 PM. Regardless of the shifting conditions associated with COVID, we need all parents to submit their choice of either Hybrid or Distance Learning.
Earlier today I was on KJLS and summarized the options for our students and reminded them to talk with their parents about their family’s choice. I also reminded our students of the Wednesday 5:00 PM deadline.
For your review, here is a link to the instructional models proposed, and a FAQ page that was created by the JLS PTA for your reference. In case you have any questions or need additional information to access the survey, please contact PAUSD via the following link: Go to Let's Talk, and click on Learning Model Selection for Parents.
Also, if you are looking for even more information, please join us at one of our JLS Parent Network/Principal Coffees this week:
- Tonight, Tuesday, November 17 at 5:30 PM
- Topic: Supporting Students (SpEd and ELL)
- Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 18 at 8:30 AM
- Topic: General Presentation for all JLS families with Q&A
It is important that you make the decision that is right for your student and your family, as only you are aware of the social/emotional and academic needs of your child.
The Hybrid option includes coming to the JLS campus four times per week for a limited number of classes and socializing with a small number of students in person, while the Distance Learning option continues students learning in all classes online.
If the Distance Learning experience is currently working well for your student, then continuation in this model should be considered.
If you think having multiple days a week with some of their teachers and a small group of their peers could benefit your child, perhaps the Hybrid Learning model could be a better fit. The cohort approach that we are offering through the Hybrid option prioritizes the safety of students and staff. By keeping everyone in small cohorts, we reduce the impact should anyone be exposed to COVID.
Since there are many considerations that are unique to each family, the decision ultimately falls on parents. Whether you choose the hybrid opportunity or continue with distance learning, please submit your selection by 5:00 PM tomorrow (Wednesday, November 18, 2020).
If you have specific questions, please reach out your student’s Counselor or Administrator. Their contact information is below.
Stay safe and healthy,
