COVID Clinic Reminders:
If you would like your child to participate in Covid Testing tomorrow, Thursday, November 18, please register through COVID Clinic.  Every family must register their child prior to testing, even if they have tested with COVID Clinic previously.  Directions for how to register are here. Covid testing is available at JLS on Thursdays.

Additional covid testing for students, staff, and community members is held at Cubberley "every weekday from 10:00am-6:00pm.”  Please see the document in your email for the full schedule of Covid testing in PAUSD.

If you are having trouble with the COVID CLINIC website, please contact COVID CLINIC (877-219-8378) or go to Cubberley Community Center, 4000 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto, CA.
Health and Safety Reminders:
If you receive a Close Contact letter or a “Notification of Covid Testing for your Close Contact,” please feel free to send your student’s negative test results to the JLS Attendance Email Address: Also, if you have any questions, in regards to all things Covid, please feel free to contact our JLS Health Tech, Carol Cannon at or speak to a JLS staff member at (650) 856-5188.

Service Activity, Fall Festival with YCS (Youth Community Service):
Thursday, Nov 18 from 3:15 - 4:30pm at JLS on the blacktop (outside the JLS Cafetorium)
Enjoy the fall season of gratitude with fun activities and community service opportunities for students and parent volunteers. Engage in service projects with local organizations such as EHP, the VA Hospital, LiveMoves and more! Admission is free; Sign up your student here
**NEW: we could use a few more parent volunteers -- If you can be a parent volunteer, please sign up here.

If you would like to participate in the Food Drive for EHP, as part of this service effort, please see the flier here for a list of accepted and needed items. There will be boxes in front of the office all day Thursday, Nov 18 to collect items (you can participate in the food drive, even if you can't be at the service activity that afternoon).

Turkey Trot on Friday, November 19, at Lunch:
We are looking forward to a fun event on Friday!  Students are invited to walk or run during our 2021 Turkey Trot.  Participants will cover a distance of about .85 miles, and everyone will receive a raffle ticket for some fun, Thanksgiving-themed prizes at the end.  If your child plans to participate, please have them wear appropriate shoes.  If you’d like to volunteer, please sign up here.  (Remember, all volunteers must be fully vaccinated and also enter their information on the PAUSD Volunteer Form.)

Thanksgiving Break = No School, Monday, November 22 through Friday, November 26
We hope that you and your family have a safe, healthy and relaxing Thanksgiving Break.  We look forward to seeing all JLS students again on Monday, November 29, 2021 when school resumes.

JLS Library Reminder:
Is your child looking for something to read over the Thanksgiving Break? The JLS Library website has some suggestions of how students can pick books.  If your child is looking for some new material, have them visit Mr. Ambrose and Sam in the Library.  (Open every school day, 8:00 AM to 15 minutes after school ends!)

Student Life Reminders: Behavior Expectations (Masks, Phones, Lockers) and Getting Involved:

  • These Behavior Expectations for Students were drafted at the beginning of October, and we are in the process of refining them.  If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to any JLS staff member.
    • Masks are still mandatory to be worn during all times while students and staff are on campus. Please help us by reminding students that masks are MANDATORY at all times while on campus, indoors and outdoors.  New, disposable masks are always available for anyone to pick up in the JLS Office.
    • Phones are not allowed to be out during the school day. This includes during class time, during passing periods, during Brunch and during Lunch.  If/When a JLS staff member sees a student with their phone out, they will confiscate it; students may pick up their confiscated phone at the end of the school day. Please help us by reminding students to store phones in their locker during the school day, or don’t bring them to school at all.
    • Lock your Lockers.  To ensure your locker is secure, students should be sure to push the lock closed and spin the dial, then test it to make sure the lock has closed correctly.
  • Getting Involved: Now that we are entering the middle of our school year, our clubs are in full swing.  If your child is interested in joining a club, please refer them to this current club list

2nd Quarter Progress Reports:
Progress Grades were made available on Friday, November 12, 2021.  Students and families are able to check Infinite Campus to view their Reports for our Progress Grades.  To check your child’s grades, please log in to the Infinite Campus Parent Portal and select your child’s name.  You should be able to view Progress Grade Information.  If you have any questions regarding the academic progress, please contact your child’s teacher directly.

Thank you for your interest, involvement and continued support of our school.  If you have any questions, please reach out to any member of the JLS team.

We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday with your family!

Warm regards,

Chris Grierson, JLS Principal (
