Celebrating Black History Month - A Commitment to Equity, Inclusivity and Unity
Dear PAUSD Middle School Families,
As we step into February, our middle schools proudly recognize Black History Month, a time dedicated to acknowledging and celebrating the significant contributions of African Americans to our nation’s life and culture. This month offers us a unique opportunity to reflect on our shared history, recognize the progress we have made in the fight against racial injustice, and recommit ourselves to the work that remains in building a more inclusive and equitable society.
The importance of Black History Month extends beyond a mere acknowledgment of the contributions of Black Americans; it serves as a crucial reminder of our ongoing responsibility to combat racism, prejudice, and discrimination in all its forms. It is a time for us to reaffirm our dedication to fostering an environment where every member of our community feels valued, understood, and respected.
This month, our Fletcher, Greene, and JLS communities are presented with an invaluable opportunity to further our commitments to inclusivity and unity within our campuses. Let us seize this chance to educate ourselves and our students about the rich history and cultural heritage of African Americans. Through a series of planned activities, discussions, and educational programs, we aim to highlight the achievements, struggles, and enduring spirit of Black individuals throughout history.
Nevertheless, our dedication should not be confined to February. The momentum generated during Black History Month should propel us into year-round endeavors to reject hate and racism. It is essential for each of us to actively contribute to the creation of communities that celebrate diversity, enabling every individual to flourish without the specter of prejudice or hatred.
With this goal in mind, let's actively participate in open and respectful dialogues, question our preconceptions, and embrace the diversity that enhances the fabric of our schools and school communities. Collectively, we can transform Fletcher, Greene, and JLS into symbols of inclusivity, understanding, and mutual respect.
We extend my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support and dedication to fostering a welcoming environment at our PAUSD middle schools. Let us pay tribute to the legacy of those who fought for justice and equality by dedicating ourselves to the continual effort of constructing a community united against hate and racism.
With warmest regards,
