Principal's Update: Construction, Parent Ed, and Input

Hello JLS Families,

Happy Friday!  This is a busy time of year and there are many fun events taking place. This afternoon we held our third International Market Place (see attached pic below). This was a great way to end the week before our Thanksgiving Break.

This message contains important information all parents should be aware of.  Please read on to learn about the following topics:

  • JLS Community Zoom (archived November 18, 2022)
  • Student Drop-Off and Parking Areas
  • JLS Library Relocation (Move to Room 930 and 940)
  • Parent Ed: Balancing Technology - Wednesday, November 30, 2022
  • KJLS Fundraiser: Virtual Auction December 5-16
  • PAUSD Special Education Survey

JLS Community Zoom Recording:

Today, November 18, 2022, we had about 50 people tune in to our monthly Community Zoom. Here is our slide deck and here is our recording. Please reach out to any member of the JLS Admin Team if you have any follow-up questions.

Student Drop-Off and Parking Areas:

If you tuned-in to our Community Zoom this morning, you heard me explain that we are going to be changing our parking configuration after Winter Break.  In order to prepare for this transition, we are going to remind all parents that student drop off in the morning should be done along East Meadow Road, not by way of coming into the Waverley Driveway.

JLS Library Relocation (Move to Room 930 and 940):

Over Thanksgiving, the Library will move to 930 and 940 near the Gym for the rest of the year. Starting Monday, November 28, students and volunteers can report to 930 and 940 during the library’s typical operating hours. Homework Habit will also move to be in the new library space without change to its operating hours.

Parent Ed: Balancing Technology - Wednesday, November 30, 2022:

Now, perhaps more than ever, children are using technology to access social media, gaming, and the internet.  What are healthy limits?  How can we support and protect our students as they navigate this growingly complicated world?  The JLS PTA is partnering with Monika Nagy to present parent resources on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at 7:00 PM.  Please join us in the JLS Cafetorium!

KJLS Broadcast Team is doing a Virtual Auction fundraiser!

Auction virtual portal will be open from December 5th (Monday) - 16th (Friday), 2022. The students are looking for donations at the moment to auction out for their fundraiser.  The KJLS Broadcast Team is out on a mission! The entire team is entering to compete once again this coming year at the Student Television Network, or STN, is a national broadcast competition. This competition is a great experience for many students as it allows them to immerse themselves a bit deeper into the media field and learn more about the work of real news reporters, anchors, and filmmakers.

This competition is a great experience for many students as it allows them to immerse themselves a bit deeper into the media field and learn more about the work of real news reporters, anchors, and filmmakers. With this experience, they would be able to come back and produce stronger contents for the JLS community.

We would greatly appreciate your donations by Friday, December 2, 2022. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Lee at jullee@pausd.org. Thank you!

PAUSD Special Education Survey:

Our Special Education Department values the partnership and collaboration with our families. Please note they are sending out more frequent communications via Parent Square. On Monday, November 14 @ 4pm, a Special Education Parent Survey was sent to Special Education families via Parent Square seeking input to guide continuous improvement in the department's operations and student supports.  We would greatly appreciate if you can complete this survey by Monday, November 28, as we are seeking broad participation.  Thank you!

Thank you very much for your engaged support of our school community.  If you have questions about any of the information contained in this message, please reach out to me or any member of the JLS staff, call our office at (650) 856-5188 or visit our school website

We look forward to seeing you when school resumes on Monday, November 28, 2022. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break!

Take care,

Chris Grierson, JLS Principal (cgrierson@pausd.org)
