We'd love YOU to be a part of the JLS PTA Committee for 2023-24

Thank you to the JLS PTA Nominating Committee who has been working hard to fill the roles needed for the JLS PTA Executive Board and other Volunteer Lead Roles. 

JLS is a fantastic place for our kids to be! 

Part of what makes JLS shine are our Parent Volunteers who organize and volunteer for so many events for students, staff and families. These events build our community and make everyone feel welcome and appreciated. If you've wanted to help JLS, but haven't known how, we have a number of great opportunities for next school year (2023-24).

All roles are suitable for first time volunteers - no experience is needed and the committee supports each other.

Next Year's Proposed PTA Slate:
The Nominating Committee has prepared this proposed slate for JLS PTA 2023-24. We will hold the election at our General PTA meeting on May 24 at 8:30am. Thank you to all of the volunteers for next year.

All of the Open Roles, plus additional roles, are described below:

JLS PTA EXECUTIVE BOARD 
(PTA leadership; requires board meeting once per month in addition to responsibility listed below, typically about 3-5 hours per month total for most roles)

• VP Membership - track and maintain records of PTA membership; encourage and drive more PTA membership
• VP Community Service - coordinate with YCS for service opportunities for our students; including monthly afterschool activities; oversee bicycle safety initiatives
• VP School Support - coordinate with school for volunteers for school led activities such as library volunteers, noon angels, yearbook distribution, etc.
• Auditor - review PTA financials; work with PTA Treasurer
• Historian - Collects volunteer hours, completes and submits the PTA Unit-Annual Historian Report to council/district PTA; displays or presents brief overview of PTA year at meeting near the end of the school year

OTHER PTA ONGOING ROLES

• JLS PTA Webmaster: keep website current on a monthly basis, potentially 1-2 hours per month; website is wordpress; ALL done from home
• JLS eNews editor: help collect, organize and edit weekly enews; supporting the VP Communications (approx 1 hour weekly, all done from home).
• Volunteer Coordinator: track volunteers (from form at beginning of year) and notify event chairs of who's signed up, help encourage volunteers, 2-3 hours per month August & Sept, then 1 hour per month, ALL done from home
• 6th Grade Parent Network Coordinator(s): organize 2-3 events (meet ups or coffees) per year to foster relationships among grade level parents; help support communication between PTA board and grade level parents through email and ParentSquare messages
• 8th Grade Parent Network Coordinator(s) organize 2-3 events (meet ups or coffees) per year to foster relationships among grade level parents; help support communication between PTA board and grade level parents through email and ParentSquare messages

PTA SPECIAL EVENTS/SPECIAL COMMITTEES (short time commitment during one part of the year)

Did you enjoy any of these events this year? Would you like to see them continue? Please volunteer -- or volunteer together with a friend as only activities with event leaders (or "chairs") are added to next year's budget and calendar:

• Principal's Coffee: help coordinate monthly coffees with parents & Mr. Grierson
• Back to School Pizza Dinner Co-Chairs: help direct this awesome August event
• International Night Co-Chairs: organize this event, usually in March
• End-of-year 7th Grade Level Party Co-Chairs: coordinate activities, games and snacks for last week of school party
• End-of-year 6th Grade Level Party Co-Chairs: coordinate activities, games and snacks for last week of school party
