The JLS Physical Education program is designed to develop basic motor skills, fundamental movement patterns and physical fitness. Emphasis is placed on the importance of positive sportsmanship and cooperation, including respect for one another. Students are provided an introductory exposure to a wide variety of activities, including team sports, individual and dual activities.
Course Objectives
6th grade students are required to participate in moderate to vigorous physical activity accumulating 200 minutes every 10-days. Each unit will focus on sport specific movement patterns and skills through cooperative activities. Students are expected to develop and maintain a level of physical fitness to improve health and performance.
7th grade students are required to participate in moderate to vigorous physical activity accumulating 400 minutes every 10-days. Each unit will focus on refining sport specific skills through individual and dual sports. Students are expected to work cooperatively in small groups. 7th grade students will take the “Fitness-Gram” Fitness Test.
8th grade students are required to participate in moderate to vigorous physical activity accumulating 400 minutes every 10-days. Each unit will focus on sport specific skills through team activities, learning offensive and defensive strategies. Students are expected to develop and maintain a level of physical fitness to improve health and performance.
Medical Excuses
A parent note may excuse a student for up to 3 days of participation and attendance is required. Medical excuses vary by student and situation and will be dealt with on an individual basis.
PE Clothes
7th & 8th grade PE students are required to wear their PE uniform. The PE uniform can be purchased in the Main Office.
